
June Workshops
Swagatam (Kids - 6 to 12 years) - 17th, 18th, 19th June - 4 to 6 pm
An introduction to the world of bharatanatyam, learn some basics and understand what Natyam is about. Kids will walk away with a small dance sequence to demonstrate and with a certificate.
Storytelling with Natyam (Kids - 6 to 12 years) - 24th, 25th, 26th June - 4 to 6 pm
A prominent part of Bharatanatyam is to tell stories without using speech, using hand gestures and body language. Stories need not necessarily be from mythology but can be from anywhere. In this workshop, participants will learn to tell a story using Hastas outlined in the Natyasastra. Participants will also be a given a certificate.
ADAVU Abhyaas Level 1 (Anyone who knows adavus) - 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th June - 5 to 6:30 pm
Adavus are the basic building blocks of bharatanatyam. Often times we learn them like ABCs of language, but then are not very excited about practising them. In this bootcamp style workshop, combination of adavus in different speeds and jaatis will be used to make this practise interesting. Session will be preceded by warm up and cool down exercises.
July Workshops

August Workshops
(by Shobanaa Bhalchandra, Creative Director, Bharata Kalanjali, Chennai)
Varnam (11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 8 am to 12 noon, 300$)
A Tanjore quartet Varnam will be taught. Participant must already know at least one more Varnam.
Padam (9th, 10th, 11th - 7 to 9 pm / 14th - 5 to 7 pm, 150$)
Participants will be comfortable with the pace if they already know at least 2-3 padams.
Keertanam (9th, 10th, 11th - 5 to 7pm / 14th 3 to 5 pm, 150$)
This will be a simple introductory abhinaya cum nritta piece. Limited exposure to abhinaya in the past should be ok for participation in this one.
